Transportation & Distribution Services is collecting new or slightly used backpacks as part of its annual Backpack Give Back outreach program through Friday, July 1. Donated packs will be given to South County Outreach, a nonprofit organization that provides vital services and assistance to local low-income families, seniors and individuals. Since 2011, the drive has contributed more than 250 backpacks to disadvantaged youth. To participate, drop off a backpack at any parking information kiosk, the Transportation & Distribution Services office or the Anteater Recreation Center. A map of all drop-off locations is available here (PDF). In addition to this backpack drive, South County Outreach also welcomes donations of goods, time and funds. For additional information about how to get involved, contact Erika Hennon at 949-824-5951 or email email@example.com.
