Campus Recreation is proud to announce the return of Fit Squad, a fitness program designed to get you moving. Starting this week, you can join your co-workers for a quick workout during lunch or after work. Classes run through Friday, June 9, and are free for all UCI faculty and staff. Registration is required. Health & Fitness Fridays: What’s for Breakfast?

Join your co-workers noon Friday, April 21, at the Anteater Recreation Center for the next installment of Health & Fitness Fridays titled “What’s for Breakfast?” Studies have linked eating breakfast with good health, including better memory and concentration, lower levels of LDL cholesterol and reducing risk of diabetes, heart disease and being overweight. Breakfast kick-starts your metabolism, helping you burn calories throughout the day. Attendees will learn how to start off the day right with healthy, quick and easy-to-prep recipes. Parenting Resources 101
Learn about all of the parenting resources and programs UCI has to offer at the Parenting Resources 101 workshop noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in the Human Resources training room at 111 Theory, Suite 200. Led by UCI Wellness Program Administrator Dyan Hall, the workshop will focus on maximizing your medical benefit plans, childcare resources, flexible work arrangements and saving for college. UCI Grad Slam Finals and Reception

Faculty and staff are invited to attend the 2017 Grad Slam finals and reception 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the Newkirk Alumni Center. Nine graduate student finalists will compete in this three-minute research pitch competition for the title of UCI Grad Slam Champion. Students are judged based on their ability to clearly and effectively present their work with poise and confidence. The winner will represent the campus in the UC systemwide challenge in May. National Public Safety Telecommunications Appreciation Week

National Public Safety Telecommunications Week is April 9-15. UCI Police Department dispatchers are the first to respond to calls from Anteater community members who are in need of emergency resources, such as fire, medical or police services. In 2016, dispatchers answers 6,593 emergency 911 calls from the UCI and UC Irvine Medical Center community. They also answered more than 52,000 incoming calls with 97 percent being answered in under 10 seconds. Thank you to UCIPD’s stellar communications unit!
