Join your fellow Anteaters at the ballpark for UCI Night with the Angeles Saturday, May 6, at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. The fun starts at 4 p.m. at the UCI Village at Gate 5 with prizes, giveaways and photo-ops before the Angels take on the Houston Astros at 6:07 p.m. Special ticket packages with a limited-edition UCI-Angels hat are available for purchase online and at the Student Government Office (G244) at the Student Center. Additionally, roundtrip shuttle transportation is available for $5 from the main campus to Angel Stadium.
Faculty and staff are invited to vote on this year’s theme for the Staff Appreciation Picnic scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 24, in Aldrich Park. Potential themes include “1980s Dance Party,” “An Afternoon at the Movies,” “Tailgate in the Park,” or “UCI Pure Imagination.” Submit your vote by 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 26. Only one vote per person.
Join your co-workers for the “Home Buying Essentials” workshop presented by Schools First Credit Union noon-1 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at the Human Resources office (111 Theory, Suite 200). Attendees will receive an overview on all of the important aspects of purchasing a home, including various types of loans, pre-approval processes, how to determine affordability and interest rate considerations. If you’re thinking of retiring in the next few months or even the next couple of years, University of California’s webinar presentation will help you better understand your retirement benefits and the steps you’ll need to take in for a smooth transition. The next webinar will take place 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, April 27. Registration is not required. However, you’ll need to log into the ReadyTalk website and dial into the telephone conference. Instructions, including the phone number and access code, are available on the UCnet website. If you’re unable to attend the webinar, a video of the presentation may be viewed on demand online.
Optum has recently re-launched its Live and Work Well website with an improved look and feel. All of the same great resources are available to members on webpages that are easier to navigate and more visually appealing in an effort to enhance member experience.
Environmental Health & Safety’s “Report an Injury, Incident or Safety Concern” online form facilitates reporting all work-related injuries, illness and incidents as well as safety hazards or unsafe conditions. Submitting the form also will automatically notify EH&S, Workers’ Compensation and Risk Management. Additional resources are available here.
The UCI Staff Relief Fund provides financial assistance and resources to UCI employees who are experiencing an emergency or unforeseen/unavoidable life event. Employees at the campus and medical center are invited to consider making a donation to the fund to help co-workers in need. ZotSpeak Toastmasters provides a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to become more effective communicators and leaders. Get rid of your fear of public speaking, learn to think quickly and clearly, and develop presentation skills at your own pace. ZotSpeak meets every Tuesday at noon in Aldrich Hall, room 107. Retirees, alumni and current faculty and staff are invited to the 9th Annual UCI Retirees & Friends Golf Tournament Tuesday, May 23, at the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo. Reservation and payment forms (PDF) must be received by the Center for Emeriti & Retirees no later than Monday, May 1. Lace up your sneakers and get ready to walk one mile around UCI with your fellow Anteaters. The 8th annual UC Walks event is slated for Wednesday, May 17. Walks on the main campus will take place 10 a.m.-1 p.m. starting at the Gateway Plaza near Langson Library. At the UC Irvine Medical Center, the event will take place 9 a.m.-2 p.m. starting at the Shanbrom Hall lawn. Last year, more than 6,400 people across the system participated in UC Walks.
